It is amazing how an actual horrible war in which people are being actually horribly hurt and killed was so quickly sidelined by the sight of a man in a tux being not very horribly hurt by another tuxedo'd man who was apparently at ease with making a spectacle of himself. The whole planet was so shocked that for a few hours it was if we could speak of nothing else but that slap and the crazed yelling, because it's possible we can only take so much of looking at shattered cities and desperate people trying to save their kids, their grandmas, and even their pets. The world grows weirder by the day.
Lindsey Dawson you've rocked me with that picture of performative bullshit in the US. It has the look of being their staple......overstating it some I guess but you know......Geez!
Lovely as usual, but I am wondering if "... some other dumb film gets best picture!" was an intentional 'joke' that may have relevantly exemplified a tone deaf reference to a disability - and thus an experiment to see if the Twitter explodes.
And I bloody well had to Google who won Best Actress. The gorgeous and powerful Jessica Chastaine. I want to slap someone this moment was taken from her. And Campion. And everyone else.

Can I edit my comment to say: I want to slap someone for taking this moment from her...
I can see an edit option on Substack comments now (as of some time in the last few weeks)
There's an ellipsis icon and if you click on that it says "Edit comment"
Thanks Lisa, I had not spotted that ...
👍
What I do when I realise I need to edit is copy copy my post, delete it, paste it as a new comment, edit it, and then post.

Excellent actress unfortunately she won for a not great film
"The lesson is don't be too cheap to buy your (t)ropes..." And too dumb to equate US entertainment with a nuclear holocaust backdrop
I am furiously swearing at you in NZSL for your description of Coda 😤
very sorry about that, I was genuinely in the dark, knew not a single thing about it, was using a generic expression
