Re our US election coverage: I have been expressing concern /outrage /dismay about all the interviews, on both channels, with Trump supporters. I get that they are media fodder of the freak show kind, but does journalistic balance not require equal time with Biden supporters?

Exceptional David. Too many brilliant lines to respond to without becoming boring. As regards the C's I've decided from now on to take a zero tolerance approach. Tried everything else and nothing works so despite the PM's desire for kindness and tolerance I'm going to metaphorically go postal in response to their online shenanigans. With carefully worded responses it shouldn't be difficult to get many of them frequently banned - once someone is on the fb watch list the bots tend to drive them away from the platform fairly rapidly. Twitter is for people who don't really work for a living. Anyway fingers crossed Hosking never recovers, some people are beyond redemption

I will put handsome dollars on this: those in New Zealand who whine that Trump's the victim are 'Dunning Kruger' through and through, viz. embarrassingly ignorant blowhards in the style of Trump himself. Just for sport make mention of 'Electoral College'.......await confused rant about some school for apprentice sparkies down Eketahuna way near Fielding.

"You bastards think I know fuck nothing whereas I know fuck all....." - David Niven ("Bring on the Empty Horses") - so unwittingly prescient all those decades ago re Trump cultists.

'The best thing a government can do is be progressive and ambitious and eager for new ideas'. probably the best thing we all can do - so yes yes yes - but some ideas - like MOST of the ones left over from the Welfare Expert Advisory are good ones to pursue - especially if the government wants to e progressive and transformative. Every City, Village and Town should have a Travelator - but too late for that promise!

After you get your travelator can I get a (pedestrian) tunnel from Cheltenham to Corelli's?

I just want to know who your Arizona college student Twitter friend is as I would have been that person, if only there had been Twitter back then.

Or the Internet.

There seems to be a lot of shouting in America right now. Americans seem to like shouting a lot. I'd feel better for the future safety of the world if one of those candidates just spoke quietly. Donald can't so it's up to you, Joe.

I highly recommend reading Heather Cox Richardson's Letters from an American. They're on substack too. She's an historian and she definitely doesn't shout. She's intelligent, level-headed, and gives a brilliant daily rundown on what's happened in the US and often how it stands up in relation to historical events. It's my main (often only) source of US news at the moment.

I do not understand why a travelator is on your list......surely walking is a seriously underrated exercise? I don't like scooters (the small, stand-up-on varieties) for that reason. (But I also don't like them because they're bloody dangerous, and the idiots on them don't obey road rules).
