On Great Barrier Island, where they have been COVID free forever, local businesses won’t serve you until you have scanned in. Tiny place, sure, and no one is in a hurry, but the firm and consistent approach is... catchy. It’s in the interest of retailers and Hospo people to get really bossy about this, right?

Was disappointed to see a cabinet minister on a plane yesterday not wearing a mask. I'm all for sustained vigilance as its much easier than dealing with an outbreak. Minor inconvenience to keep us safe is well worth it.

I mostly scan, at least at a centre if not each shop, but sometimes still find the app a bit clunky/slow. Still think your idea of gamifying it would be the easiest way to increase compliance.

On local Covid-19, yes we have taken our eye off the ball. Auckland just tagged Wellington "You're IT" and I haven't seen another person scanning or signing in at any business here in Kaitaia for two weeks now. It's also getting harder to find the single compulsory QR code on display as all of the more prominent ones have been removed.

On the US election, after all the Four Seasonal hilarity, I still find myself haunted and returning to this strangely calming video of Trump dancing. How can repugnance become so poignant?

74 million for Biden. The elephant in the room: 70 million Americans wanted to rehire the fascist lunatic. Nah not now.....still celebrating.
