I think you've got to be pretty careful with the free stuff vs money argument.

People inherently under-value their own future, so things that pay extremely big in the future like healthcare and education are always under-purchased at true prices. Society benefits from them being massively subsidised. Risk insurance is another one, ACC is great, fire departments are great.

Arguably solar panels are a future good like that, but it's much smaller margin than healthcare. Free transport though? Why not fund urban density? Micro power generation? That's way more expensive than grid-based solutions.

Like, even super cheap power, sure, but it can be way more cost effective to work on efficiency of use, heat pumps and insulation are together twenty times as efficient as old uninsulated homes with bar heaters.

Yeah, we need national standards for electric car chargers, and decent power ports in people's garages so the cars can act as a power source in disruptions and emergencies, standards are great, but subsidies there do need compared to where else that money might be better spent for more effect.

And for little stuff, like my phone data plan, man, it's pretty unlikely the state should be managing day to day stuff like the price of bread, outside of maybe breaking up the monopoly in the grain supply chain, yeah? Just give me cash, capitalism does work really well for some stuff.

Love your work!

Suffering from mass anxiety due to lack of immigration policy for those of us who are wanting to get our partners here! Sadly no politicians want to answer anything, at all!
