Nobody has ever said to me "Get off our beach, bro!" but I have been told "You can't leave your boat at this jetty. This beach is private property." I ignored the stupid prick in a way I have never done for a rāhui. If it were up to me, I'd give all our coast customary title. It'd be a good start.
Thanks for sharing this David. They should be entitled to a front page in retaliation to the other crap. I think this post needs an open share to spread the word far and wide
Shows the state of it when lawyers are the good guys! But seriously. The original Foreshore and Seabed thing was the moment I lost any respect for Helen Clark and co. They had a stark choice between the principled thing to do -- to let the courts decide whether iwi had alienated the foreshore and seabed (probably not) — or to play the populist card and let the electorate think they were about to lose access to the beaches. They chose the latter. That completely changed the political landscape, to one divided along racial lines. It hasn't got better since.
Here in the Kaipara District, much of its western area called Hobson in pre-amalgamation days, the mayor and his eastern based, Mangawhai-centric cronies on the council were the first in NZ to get rid of the Maori ward. An estimated 25 percent of the western side's population is Maori. To give perspective, the mayor Craig Jepson manned the anti co-governance stall at Northland Field Days. He had supporters like Frank Newman (of Hobson's Choice) at the 'ban Maori representation' meeting, at which his mate, deputy mayor Jonathan Larsen described the protest outside as being like "tribal warfare". Please decent folk, Push back against this shit.
The translators did the same earlier in the year, to the pink party, its pretty poor this trump style nonsense, we need to take democracy by the horns and get it back to its obligations to us not the sponsers
All written up in today's print Herald - along with Brash's response which makes it clear he does not listen to, let alone understand, opposing views. For a supposedly intelligent man it is strange he chooses to parade himself as an idiot.
Good on you for speaking to this topic. I found this to be such offensive and bad-faith profiteering from the Herald that I'll be boycotting them permanently.

Super. Lay into the buggers.
The haters and wreckers are out in force, facilitated by a weak PM. It's an extremely worrying situation, moving very fast.
Great to see the push back from a variety of sources. Thanks for sharing this update David
