From the distance of an AirNZ hour away I think you fully recovered brain-wise at least. Very readable

"What a standard-bearer he is for obdurate resistance to any notion of seeking to understand past wrongs and right them. What a balm he is for every sulking pouting man who can’t believe we didn’t stop the clock at 1950." Love it!

Oh yes, Mr. Slack. Great to have you back on form and running at full throttle double-wit.

You are feeling better. Keep being careful, and it will keep on getting better! How do I know you are feeling better? The adoration of the Maggi! Love it!

Regarding parents making decisions on the future of their children, it is worth remembering:

On Children by Kahlil Gibran - 1883-1931

" Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you,

And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,

For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.

For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth."

We are guardians of our children, we do not own them. The decisions we make must be in their best interest, not ours.

I hope some psychologists and/or propaganda researchers are seriously studying this anti-vax / anti-expert / anti-government phenomenon. If it is a weapon orchestrated by Putin's KGB I have to wonder if that was in play in the 60s and 70s and beyond when we were on the streets (I recall trying to get a mob to chant "Fri-day, fission ships, BYO tomato sauce) - or did Putin observe what free-speech democracy permitted and devise a way to manipulate it? What ever the cause, the collective mental illness that has gripped that section of society is beyond rational argument.

Along with the marvellous 9d I also especially enjoyed 1c and 1d.

I think i will go home for some Adoration of the Maggi with kettle fries and a 0.0% beer. Sounds much better than onion dip!

Excellent David - a wonderful column. I always enjoy the quiz because of the hilarious alternative answers, but you really had me laughing out loud tonight. By some weird coincidence I was re-reading Kublai Khan last night.

Love the Alligator. Although with my three girls it was more Cats as in cute little kittens, fight like cats in a sack, getting them to do things is like herding cats!

That's loooong Covid you got, David. Longer than a vaccine lasts in a human. Did anyone tell Sue and Liz? Or that most NZers now have Covid antibodies zooming around in their bloodstream? Where might they find "clean" blood? A newborn?

I'm so pleased they're going to try to sell raising the retirement age. Guaranteed election-losing policy imho.

Yes! That really infuriated me. Cynical, self-serving twerps spending taxpayers money on electioneering. They should be here in New Zealand, doing their job. Oh wait - they haven't figured out what their job is yet.
