Such a timely newsletter, coming, as it does, the day after I committed to having solar panels installed. Am excited at the prospect of getting them installed!

One thing I am looking forward to. There's a small company in Auckland that has three wheeler e-scooters which are so stable that they will be ideal for older people who no longer want to drive, especially with the increasing number of separated cycleways in places like Wellington. They have remote sensing so if they are left in the middle of the footpath they can be remote controlled to the side or to a nearby dock. Other than that there are a lot of submissions to write these days. Even if they are ignored by the current regressive blip of a government, they all get counted and archived as a force for good.

I am nearing the end of Dame Anne Salmond's excellent book 'Knowledge is a Blessing on Your Mind' (includes excellent material relating to Te Tiriti). Chapter 16 begins: "In 2010 I was asked to sign an open letter, 'Climate Change and the Integrity of Science' with 254 co-signatories, ... a powerful statement of support for the scientific project, and for climate scientists who were being assailed by affiliates of the fossil fuel companies, including prominent [US] politicians and some scientists."

How different things may have been had Al Gore become POTUS a decade earlier. As I recall, our Clark-led government and many local industries were making good progress when the 2008 GFC put sustainability on the back burner (an apt metaphor?). Surely today's increasing catastrophic weather events require us to now proritise Climate Change. May the kaupapa of your workshop expand to engulf our government.

All these damn things we can do to make it better for - well who? better for the self interested, or better for the great washed majority. Surely that is the whole point, has to be better for everyone, because if it is not better for all, then ultimately nothing will work for only a few! Nothing can work without all people being involved - if doing what is needed for the few ruling class, they are completely dependent on the support from the rest of us our support they can do nothing!

So WE should be in control, we should take control!

From the headline I thought it was going to be a column about our beloved coalition government. A surfeit of tools. Or losers if you will. But instead got to read about a great initiative (with a side order of aforementioned tools...)

Thank you so much David for coming to our workshop, and for giving us a shout out in your newsletter! Emily (our GM, who ran yesterday's workshop) also passes on her thanks, as well as the rest of our largely volunteer team - everyone's stoked to hear that it was a positive experience.

"Fight for what you believe in. Make some damn noise, keep it up." This must include that bike lane over the bridge for you who are bike riders. Maybe it's time again to just take the lane and be damned with the consequences. Easy for me I know because I don't ride a bike yet surely bold and defiant action does get results??

Yip. I signed up thanks for that.

Positive action is always good to be involved in, but until I get my knee op (next year) I'll just be applauding from the sideline. Be good if govt was involved. Yeah that was a joke.
